Make in India
The Make in India is an initiative by the Indian government to promote domestic product manufacturing. This certificate is a work of proof that a product is primarily manufactured in India, showing key details such as the percentage of local content and the manufacturer’s location.
This certification allows suppliers to receive preference in government tender platforms like GeM and NICSI.
What is a Make in India Certificate?
The Make in India Certificate is a mandatory document for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who wish to participate in government tenders and procurements.
Manufacturers eligible for this certification must be MSMEs or local suppliers under the Make in India initiative, with a minimum turnover of Rs. 2 crores over the last three financial years.
Classification of Local Suppliers for MII Certification
The classification of local manufacturers is based on the percentage of local content in their manufactured products. Local content refers to the value added during manufacturing within India and is expressed as a percentage of the product's total value.
Class 1 Local Supplier: A supplier whose goods or services have a minimum of 50% local content added within India.
Class 2 Local Supplier: A supplier whose goods or services have local content of 20% to less than 50% added within India.
Non-Local Supplier: A supplier whose goods or services have less than 20% local content within India.
Eligibility for Make in India Certificate
1. Class 1 and Class 2 local suppliers are eligible for the Make in India Certificate. They can bid on government tenders with a purchase value below Rs. 200 crores.
2. Class 1 suppliers are only eligible for goods or services where the nodal ministry has identified sufficient local capacity and competition.
3. Global tender allows non-local suppliers to participate, along with Class 1 and Class 2 suppliers.
